In with the New

As the page turns on yet another year in fashion, a fantastic new chapter waits to be devoured.
Here's the prologue.

Though most all 'modern-day' trends are recycled looks that have been reinterpreted from past seasons, 2011 will do a fantastic job of breathing new life into them.

The select few style elements from 2010 which have been granted encores in the new year include lace, tassels, and bright graphic prints, especially stripes. Re-emerging virtually unrecognizable from their predecessors, the three looks have ensured they remain far from overused.

Lace made its vintage-inspired resurgence last year upon conservatively cut frocks, ideal for festive soirees and formal events. This year, the elegant fabric becomes entwined upon shorter skirts and mini-dresses, looks undoubtedly more suitable for the casual school day.

Amanda Brooks, fashion columnist and consultant for Vogue.com, said, "A black lace dress is season-less, feminine, and sophisticated. It is also very versatile: edgy with white pumps, messy hair, and strong makeup; schoolgirl chic with black flats, mascara, lip gloss, and a ponytail with a black bow in it."

Tassels, an adornment worn solely on the boots and bags of Manatee High School students in 2010, will finally make the leap onto clothing garments themselves. The 2011 Motorcycle Chic trend will see a burst of embellishments on everything, but most especially on the 2011 biker jacket. Balmain biker jacket and Unique tassel platform below.

Stripes, the nautical uniform of those who work and play waterside, will resurface upon floppy beach hats and sixties-themed shifts, but, of course, are not limited to them. Jil Sander Spring Summer Collection Dress featured below. Striped hat from Jak and Jil.

Though strong statement pieces when worn individually, artfully combining two or three of these hot 2011 looks in one ensemble will ensure the wearer remain a mark above the rest.

Janie Bryant, costume designer on the award-winning show Mad Men said, "I wear my sweetheart bracelets almost everyday, but I might contrast them with a mod, fitted leather jacket dress or a faux-fur bomber jacket. Your own signature style should always pack a subtle punch."
