Carven Resort 2012

A carnival of Carven! During last week's couture shows in Paris, Guillaume Henry lifted the curtain on his very first pre-collection for the fashion label. His inspiration? The Bavarian and Swiss Alps! “I wanted to express the crispness quality of all the things coming from those mountains," said Henry.

Prints of vintage postcards and maps were incorporated into Henry's designs, and even the debut of a crisp white swimsuit found its way into the line. My favorite part? The classic Carven heels.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

A couple of notes:

1.  First of all, no way has it been over a month since my last post. Second of all, I'm terribly sorry about that last bit. I've been super busy with college planning, dorm shopping, and most excitingly of all, hanging out with my family's new foreign exchange student from France!
   
   
2.  She is simply fabulous, and you better believe I've been documenting her every wardrobe decision whilst she's been here in the states.

And without further ado, on to the part of this post that actually relates to its title! 2011 Hairstyles for Summer and Fall. From super short to lustrously long, a presentation of every cut and style (the updated versions, of course) to suit your fancy.

1. The Waved Bob. As chic as ever, this look has been updated from its much shorter counterpart in that the tips of the tresses now reach all the way down to the shoulders. It's your Spring-cut bob all grown up, or, out I should say.

Though I'm still partial to the sharp, straight, and short version à la Anna Wintour, this updated cut is certainly a breath of fresh air. And now that I've gone several weeks without my regular trim, the style quite mirrors my own! Except for the dorky smile. Just Kidding! But really not.

2. The Fringed Bang. The popular style hails from the 1960s-1970s era. The true Era of Style, as everyone is aware. For most, the look is difficult to pull off. However, our French student is definitely rocking it.

3. The Combo. Fringed bangs and a bob? The 2008 trend is back for another romp! And looking pretty good.

4. Pixie Cut. Last but not least, this look has resurfaced on the head of our beloved Emma Watson (A.K.A. Hermione Granger). Another glamorous style from the 1960s-1970s Era.

And there you have four fabulous looks for the current season and next. You are very welcome, and I thank you for inspiring me to post more regularly. That's the goal.

Cut me Some Crew (and Adult Sizes, too!)

Attention: After perusing the seasonal catalog for J. Crew, I have some new obsessions of which I figured you should be aware. Though wildly out of this babysitter's price range, perhaps your wardrobe will benefit from these stylish ensembles and accessories.

Going right along with the particular Summer 2011 trends of:

'Ello, Elle

Elle Fanning. The whole world seems to be mesmerized by Dakota's younger sis right now, from my June/July TeenVogue Magazine to the current "summer blockbuster" film industry (her movie Super 8 to come out soon). What is so special about this 13 year old? Is there a unique spark inside of her that sets her apart from other actresses her age or is she simply riding the coattails of a talented older sib? I don't have the answer, unfortunately.

However, I can tell you that even if she doesn't (or does) end up commanding a camera's rapt attention, she certainly wears the couture well.

Surf's Up!

Bonjour mes amies! I apologize for the ever-sporadic posting, but I have been so busy with graduation I haven't had time to think! And now that I've officially finished with high school (as of today!), it's time to bring on the grad parties!

But I've told you where I'm heading in the Fall, I'm sure. The University of Florida! I'll be studying journalism and I can hardly wait. Hopefully She Blogs Couture will be bursting at the seams with orange and blue inspired frocks come August! In the meantime, I've got plenty to keep you entertained.

Namely, looks that I've been perusing in the 285 page Resort Fashion: Style in Sun-Drenched Climates by Caroline Rennolds Milbank. Now that's what call a fabulous summer read!

Romp Around the Clock

The 1970s one-pieced suits made for work and play experienced a welcome resuscitation last year in designers’ Spring/Summer 2010 lineups, and this year is no different.

Short and breezy rompers are hitting Sun-soaked beaches and sidewalks, serving as the new go-to grabs for comfortable, casual, yet stylish cover-ups.

Depending on the ensemble’s material, the modernized ‘onesie’ can transform into a chic and sophisticated choice for an evening out. The epitome of relaxed glamor, the look has become a new favorite of designer Alber Elbaz of major fashion house Lanvin.

The casual cool version of the look remains the most relevant locally. Popular takes on the retro style have been found at stores Forever 21, Urban Outfitters (at left) and the Rusty Crickett.

Easily transformed from tomboy to ultra feminine (and vice-versa) with an added ruffle or distressed cotton material, the day-time romper is definitely the most versatile.

“I seriously love rompers,” said an MHS senior. “They’re so comfortable. I feel like I can wear them anywhere. I’m looking for one that has a bow on top right now because I love the girly ones.”

Several students pointed out, however, that the onesie look only complements the body types of a select few, which is a fault that many catwalk-to-sidewalk trends seem to have in common. Overtly slender and athletic builds remain top-runners in this category of exclusivity.

“I think rompers only work on one body type. It’s hard to pull them off and too many people try,” said a second MHS senior.

Either way, rompers definitely offer an alternative trendy look for the upcoming season.
